This was an attempt to clone a "legendary" Mexican Christmas beer called Noche Buena, though since it's no longer available it's hard to know how close we came.
I was surprised at how sweet and heavy the result was, pre-carbonation. Indeed, when I sampled a mouthful I thought for a moment that something had gone wrong. However, when we tried a carbonated bottle- in mid-December - whatever tasted strange to me had disappeared.
The beer had a slightly smoky taste that was quite enjoyable, and although it's a winter beer, that means Mexican winter, so it's no heavy barleywine!
